Using the Project Translation tool

The Project Translation tool gives you the ability to translate the source file of your RFx when it's received in another language. Once translated to your language of choice you'll configure and import the file as a new project, complete the responses, and translate it back to the source language upon export.

  • Only after the first file you import is translated will you be able to translate subsequent imported files.
  • You can also translate the sections and questions after the source file has been imported.

We rely on third-party translation services for the online translation.

If you receive a French RFP you can translate it to English and work in English. Once your work is done, translate the responses back to French and then share it with the client.

Translating files during import

  1. Create your project and import the file.
  2. Click the Translation icon, specify the Source Language and Target Language from the menus, then click Apply.
    Note: The Target Language you choose will be the Target Language for all other translated files for the project, even if the Source Language is different.
  3. Accept the acknowledgement.
    • Responsive translates the file provides a status of the translation process.
    • When the translation is finished, the Translation icon will have a red badge indicating that the file was translated.

  4. Click in the file and begin marking it as usual, makingĀ  any configuration changes as usual. When you are finished, click Import. The file appears in Responsive.
    • Projects with translated content are marked as such on the Project Management page.

    • If you import another file, the previous source and target languages are used automatically. You can click each language to see the file in that language.
    • If the new file to be imported has the same source and target languages, it can be imported without translation.

Translating sections and questions after import

You can translate sections and questions after the file has been imported.

  • You must have Update Section permissions to translate a project.
  • Any questions that have already been answered will not be translated.
  • If there are active concurrent users, they will be notified when translation starts and ends.
  1. Go to the Sections list, then select Translate from the Project menu.

  2. Specify the language you want the project to be translated into and click Translate.

    Note: You can return the project to the original language by selecting Back to Source Language from the menu.

Reviewing the Answering page

Translated questions are marked with the Translation icon.

Click the icon to see the question in the source and target languages. This context may help you when responding to questions.

Exporting the translated files

Note: Only the answers will be exported in the new translation. The questions will be exported in the original language.

Translated files can be translated back to the original language and exported as usual.

  1. Click Export, then click New Export Package.
  2. Specify if you want to export to the source file or a template, and then click Next.
  3. Follow the directions below for exporting to the source file or template.

Exporting to the source file

  1. Set up the export as you would normally, then click the translation settings.
    • You can see the export language.
    • If you added any manual sections, you can specify the language for those sections when exported.
  2. Click Save.
  3. Read the Content Translation Acknowledgement, then click Accept.
  4. The export package appears on the Export Responses page. Click Download to download the file.

Exporting to a template

  1. Specify the template you would like to use, then click Next.
  2. Select the template and click Next.
  3. Click the Translation Settings. Make sure the target language is correct, then click Save.
  4. Click Export to create the export package.
  5. Read the Content Translation Acknowledgement, then click Accept.
  6. The export package appears on the Export Responses page. Click Download to download the file.
