Understanding Filing Statuses and Billing in Kintsugi

Updated 3 months ago

What Are the Different Filing Statuses?

As Kintsugi processes your tax returns, you may see the following statuses on your dashboard:

  • In Progress / In Filing — Your return is actively being prepared or reviewed by our team.

  • Ready to File — Your return has been reviewed and is queued for submission to the tax authority.

  • Filing — Your return is currently being submitted.

  • Filed — Your return has been successfully submitted. No further action is needed on your end.

Why Might a Filing Status Change?

Occasionally, you may notice a filing's status temporarily revert — for example, moving from Filed back to In Progress or Ready to File. This is not a cause for concern.

This can happen when our team needs to:

  • Investigate and correct a discrepancy in a filing amount

  • Resolve a data sync issue with your connected accounting platform (e.g., QuickBooks)

  • Re-process a transaction to ensure the correct tax liability is reflected

Once the review is complete, the status will be updated back to Filed. Our team will keep you informed throughout this process.

Will I Be Charged Again If My Filing Status Changes?

No — you will never be charged twice for the same filing.

Kintsugi's billing system is built to prevent duplicate charges. Each filing has a unique identifier, and our payment processor uses that identifier to ensure only one charge is ever recorded per filing — regardless of any status changes that may occur during a review or correction.

This means you can trust that even if you see a status temporarily revert in your dashboard, it will not result in an additional charge to your account.

What Should I Do If I See an Unexpected Status?

In most cases, no action is required from you. Our team handles status updates as part of our standard review process.

However, if you have questions or concerns about a specific filing — such as if you notice an amount that doesn't look right or a status that hasn't been updated in a while — don't hesitate to reach out to our support team. We're happy to walk you through what's happening and confirm that everything is on track.
