If you're unable to submit a registration request for a new jurisdiction, your account is most likely on the Free Plan.
Jurisdiction registration is not available on the Free Plan. When you reach nexus in a new state or region and click Register, the platform will prompt you to either:
Upgrade to the Starter Plan, or
Talk to Sales for a Premium Plan
This is expected behavior, not an error.
Your ability to register in a jurisdiction depends entirely on your current billing plan. Registration is only available on paid plans (Starter or Premium). If the jurisdiction is not covered under your active plan, the system will default to prompting you to contact Sales.
When you reach a nexus threshold in a new jurisdiction, here is what the platform does:
Flags the jurisdiction as Exposed
Displays a Register or Review option
Redirects you to upgrade or speak with Sales if your plan does not support registration in that jurisdiction
This is plan-based access control working as intended.
Follow the steps below to get started.
You can begin from either the Dashboard or the Monitoring tab.
Option A: From the Dashboard
Go to your Dashboard.
Under Pending Tasks, locate Registrations to Finish. Click Review.
You will be routed to the Monitoring tab to continue.
Option B: From the Monitoring Tab
Click Monitoring from the left-side panel.
Review the list of jurisdictions where you are marked as Exposed.
Locate the state or region you want to register in.
Click Review or Register on the right-hand side.
What you see next depends on which button is available to you.
If you see a Review button:
Click Review.
On the Review Collected Tax Nexus page, confirm the details.
You may need to click Resolve Collected Tax, if needed.
Click Register.
A pop-up will appear prompting you to:
Click Upgrade to move to the Starter Plan, or
Click Talk to Sales for a customized Premium Plan.
If you see a Register button:
Click Register.
A pop-up will appear prompting you to:
Click Upgrade for the Starter Plan, or
Click Talk to Sales for the Premium Plan.
To complete your registration, you will need to either:
Upgrade to a paid plan that includes your target jurisdiction, or
Work with the Sales team to activate the appropriate plan coverage.
Once your plan supports the jurisdiction, you will be able to submit the registration request directly within the app.
If you believe your current plan should already cover the jurisdiction but you are still unable to proceed, please reach out to Support so we can review your billing configuration.
