Yes, Kintsugi supports VAT and GST compliance. It is built into Kintsugi, not a separate add-on. Also, it works the same way as US sales tax: Kintsugi monitors your thresholds, tells you when you need to register, calculates the right rate on every transaction, and files your returns.
Region | Tax type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
European Union | VAT (OSS / Non-Union OSS) | Enabled by default for eligible orgs; nexus monitoring is always on |
United Kingdom | VAT | |
Canada | GST/HST + provincial taxes | |
Australia | GST | |
New Zealand | GST | |
Mexico | VAT (IVA) |
If your business sells into any of these regions, there's nothing you need to "unlock" first — your account is already monitoring for it.
VAT logic differs from US sales tax in one key way: instead of asking "do I have nexus in this state?", it asks "where does this transaction count as taking place, and who's the customer?"
B2C sales (your customer is a consumer, or a business without a valid VAT ID): Kintsugi charges VAT at the customer's local rate.
B2B sales (your customer provides a valid VAT ID): Kintsugi automatically verifies it against the EU's VIES system and, where eligible, applies the reverse charge — 0% VAT on your invoice, with the buyer accounting for the tax in their own country.
