Documents Required for VAT Registration in Vietnam

Updated 2 months ago

When registering for VAT in Vietnam through Kintsugi, the General Department of Taxation (GDT) requires supporting documentation to verify your business. The documents required differ depending on whether you are a resident entity or a non-resident foreign supplier.

For Non-Resident Foreign Suppliers (Simplified Non-Resident Scheme)

The following documents are typically required when submitting a VAT registration under the Simplified Non-Resident Scheme:

  • Certificate of incorporation or business registration document from your home country (apostilled or notarized, with a certified Vietnamese translation if applicable)

  • Proof of legal address and business operations in your home country

  • Identification of the authorized representative or signatory (such as a passport copy)

  • Description of the digital services or SaaS products provided to Vietnamese customers

  • Contact details for the business (email address and phone number for tax authority correspondence)

For Resident Businesses or Foreign-Invested Enterprises

Businesses with a legal entity or permanent establishment in Vietnam register through the standard domestic VAT process. Required documents typically include:

  • Enterprise registration certificate issued by the Vietnam Department of Planning and Investment

  • Company charter or articles of association

  • Identification documents for the legal representative

  • Business address documentation

General Notes on Document Requirements

  • Documents issued in a foreign language must be accompanied by a certified Vietnamese translation.

  • The GDT may request additional documentation depending on your business structure or the nature of your services.

  • Registration credentials (account number, username, password, tax ID, and PIN) are required to access the GDT's eTax portal for ongoing filing obligations.
