How to Reconnect Your Stripe Integration

Updated 20 days ago

Your Stripe integration helps keep Kintsugi up to date with your transaction and invoice data. If the connection is lost, it's usually easy to restore and rarely affects data that's already been synced. This article covers the most common reasons Stripe connections disconnect, how to reconnect them, and answers to frequently asked questions.

Why Did My Stripe Integration Disconnect?

A few different things can cause a Stripe disconnect:

  • Your authorization token expired or was revoked. This is the most common cause, and a normal part of how OAuth connections work over time.

  • The Kintsugi app was uninstalled from your Stripe account. Whether this happened intentionally or by accident, it fully revokes Kintsugi's access and the connection needs to be re-established.

  • The connection was revoked on Stripe's side. For example, an administrator may have disconnected the app, or a change to your Stripe account permissions may have removed Kintsugi's access. These are Stripe-side issues and aren't caused by Kintsugi.

  • A refresh token failure. In rare cases, Stripe may be unable to automatically renew the authorization token. When this happens, a standard reconnect may not resolve the issue. See the note below for additional steps.

How to Reconnect

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations, find the Stripe connection marked Invalid or Revoked, and click Reconnect.

  2. Log in to Stripe to re-authorize access, and the connection should return to Active.

  3. If reconnecting doesn't work or the connection won't stay active, the fix is usually to fully uninstall the Kintsugi app from your Stripe account and then reinstall it fresh, rather than repeatedly clicking Reconnect. This resolves cases where the existing connection can't refresh its access on its own.

Reconnecting or reinstalling the integration won't modify your historical data or change any of your existing tax settings. It simply re-establishes authorization so data can begin syncing again.

If reconnecting still doesn't resolve the issue, contact Kintsugi Support.

FAQs

Q: Is it safe to reconnect my Stripe integration?

A: Yes. Reconnecting only refreshes your authorization; it doesn't affect data that's already synced or filings already submitted.

Q: Will I need to redo my tax collection settings after reconnecting?

A: No. Whatever tax collection configuration you had before the disconnect (for example, Stripe automatic tax being enabled or disabled) carries over and stays the same after you reconnect.

Q: I clicked Reconnect, but the connection still won't stay active. What should I do?

A: Try fully uninstalling the Kintsugi app from your Stripe account and reinstalling it, rather than reconnecting repeatedly. Some Stripe connections can't refresh their access in place and need a fresh install to restore properly.

Q: Why did my Stripe connection disconnect if I didn't change anything?

A: It's usually one of a few things: a routine token expiration, the Kintsugi app being uninstalled (even accidentally), or access being revoked directly on Stripe's side. None of these point to a problem with your Kintsugi account.

Q: Will reconnecting cause duplicate transactions or affect my filings?

A: No. Reconnecting just restores the existing connection; it doesn't reprocess or duplicate historical data.

Q: What if reconnecting (or reinstalling) still doesn't fix my Stripe connection?

A: Contact Kintsugi Support. In a small number of cases, a connection needs to be restored manually on our end.
