To import your existing Minnesota sales tax registration into Kintsugi, you'll need to provide a few details issued by the Minnesota Department of Revenue when you registered your business. Minnesota manages its tax accounts through e-Services, the state's online portal for filing, paying, and managing business taxes. Once imported, Kintsugi can manage your Minnesota sales tax filings through AutoPilot.
When importing an existing Minnesota sales tax registration into Kintsugi, you'll need the following:
FEIN
MN Account ID
Your FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number) is a nine-digit number assigned by the IRS to identify your business for federal tax purposes. It is sometimes referred to as an EIN (Employer Identification Number) and follows the format: XX-XXXXXXX.
You can find your FEIN in any of the following places:
Your IRS EIN confirmation letter. When you applied for an EIN, the IRS issued a confirmation letter (CP 575 or SS-4) that includes your nine-digit FEIN.
Your Minnesota Department of Revenue correspondence. Any notices or letters from the Minnesota DOR will reference your FEIN alongside your state account information.
Your e-Services account. Log in at eservices.mndor.state.mn.us and review your business profile to confirm the FEIN on file.
Other federal tax documents. Your FEIN appears on previously filed federal tax returns, W-2 forms, or 1099 forms issued by your business.
Your MN Account ID is the seven-digit Minnesota Tax ID Number assigned by the Minnesota Department of Revenue when you registered your business for state taxes. It is used to report and pay Minnesota business taxes, including sales and use tax.
You can find your MN Account ID in any of the following places:
Your Minnesota Department of Revenue registration confirmation. When your sales tax account was approved, the Minnesota DOR issued a confirmation that includes your seven-digit Minnesota Tax ID Number.
Your e-Services account. Log in at eservices.mndor.state.mn.us and navigate to your sales and use tax account summary to locate your Account ID.
Minnesota Department of Revenue correspondence. Any notices, letters, or account-related communications from the Minnesota DOR will reference your MN Account ID.
Once you provide the required credentials, Kintsugi will initiate the third-party access request. You do not need to validate or approve the request separately, as Kintsugi will complete this step on your behalf.
Once access is confirmed, Kintsugi can continue with the registration import setup in the app.
