How do I complete onboarding if I don't have a physical presence?

Updated 29 days ago

A physical presence is necessary to complete Step 2 of the onboarding process. So, you must add at least one location where your business has a physical presence before you can proceed.

If you do not have a physical presence in the US, that's completely fine. You can add your physical presence in any country in the world. Kintsugi supports all ISO countries (~250+) in the country picker.

During the onboarding process, country, state/jurisdiction, start date, and category are required, while address details (street, city, postal code) are optional.

Categories explain your presence. For example: office/business location, remote employee, or warehouse. You should note that not all categories create nexus. For example, delivery by common carrier typically does not create a tax obligation, even though you can record it. The available categories depend on the country and state you select.

Why Physical Presence Is Required?

Physical Presence indicates where your business has a physical footprint, including offices, warehouses, and employees who work remotely. Kintsugi uses your presence records to automatically determine if you have a physical nexus (a tax obligation) in each jurisdiction.

Note: For countries outside Kintsugi's active tax strategy list, your presence is recorded, but it won't drive tax calculations.
