Guatemala applies VAT at the federal (national) level only. There are no state, regional, or local VAT layers to worry about, which keeps things relatively straightforward compared to countries with multi-level tax systems.

Guatemala has no regional or municipal VAT requirements. All VAT is collected and remitted directly to SAT at the national level.
Because VAT is applied at the federal level, a transaction is subject to Guatemala VAT when the customer's address includes "Guatemala" as the country. No further regional breakdown is needed.
A typical Guatemala address looks like this:
Sr. Raúl Rivera 18 Calle 5-60 Z.I 09001-QUETZALTENANGO GUATEMALA
IMPORTANT: There are no special VAT rates by region. The standard 12% rate applies uniformly across all of Guatemala.
