Texas: Registered Location Number

When setting up third-party access for Texas, one of the key pieces of information you'll need is your Registered Location Number or Texas Location Number, a unique 5-digit code issued by the Texas Comptroller's office that identifies each of your active business locations. This number plays a critical role in ensuring that your sales tax filings are accurately tied to the correct business location, helping to avoid mismatches or errors during the enrollment process. 

Without it, Kintsugi’s registration setup cannot be completed, making it an essential step for any business that wants to autopilot their Texas sales tax compliance.

What is a Registered Location Number?

The Texas Location Number is a 5-digit code issued by the Texas Comptroller's office to help identify each of your active business locations. It is required when enrolling in autopilot for Texas and is specific to each physical or registered business location associated with your Texas sales tax permit.

⚠️ Note: Your Registered Location Number is not your ZIP code. These are two different numbers, and entering your ZIP code in this field will result in an enrollment error.

Where to Find It?

You can find your Texas Registered Location Number listed beside your active business on the Texas Sales Taxpayer Search website at mycpa.cpa.state.tx.us.

To locate it:

1. Go to the Texas Sales Taxpayer Search.

2. Search for your business by name or tax permit number.

3. Locate your active business listing — your 5-digit Registered Location Number will appear next to it.

4. Enter this number in the corresponding field when enrolling in AutoFile.

You can also find the location number on the upper right side of your Sales and Use Tax permit.
