Kazakhstan Value Added Tax (VAT): What Kintsugi Supports

Kazakhstan imposes a Value Added Tax (VAT) on the sale of goods and services, including digital and SaaS products. As of January 1, 2026, the standard VAT rate increased from 12% to 16%. Kintsugi supports VAT compliance for businesses selling into Kazakhstan, whether you are a locally established company or a foreign business selling digital services to Kazakh customers.

Tax Type Supported Kintsugi supports Kazakhstan's federal VAT, which is the only indirect tax jurisdiction in Kazakhstan. There are no regional or local VAT jurisdictions. All VAT registration, filing, and remittance happens at the federal level with the State Revenue Committee (Ministry of Finance).

Who This Affects

Kintsugi supports two types of businesses operating in Kazakhstan:

  • Resident businesses with physical presence: Companies incorporated or physically established in Kazakhstan must register for standard VAT once their annual turnover exceeds 10,000 MCI (approximately KZT 43,250,000 for 2026).

  • Non-resident remote sellers: Foreign companies selling digital services or SaaS directly to individual consumers (B2C) in Kazakhstan must register under the Conditional VAT Registration scheme. There is no revenue threshold for non-residents. VAT registration is required from the very first B2C sale.

What Kintsugi Helps You Do

Kintsugi Intelligence handles the complexity behind Kazakhstan VAT so you do not have to. Specifically, Kintsugi supports:

  • Determining whether your business has a VAT obligation in Kazakhstan

  • Identifying the correct registration scheme for your business type

  • Calculating VAT on taxable transactions at the correct rate

  • Tracking your exposure against the registration threshold (for resident businesses)

  • Managing your quarterly compliance obligations

Note: A new reduced VAT rate of 10% was introduced on January 1, 2026 for certain essential goods and services. Some supplies remain zero-rated or exempt depending on their classification under Kazakhstan's Tax Code.'
