Maryland Tax Connect: Account Creation and Sales Tax Linking

A step-by-step walkthrough for creating a Maryland Tax Connect profile and linking a client's sales tax account when no existing account is available for third-party access
Updated 20 days ago

This guide walks you through the full process of creating a Maryland Tax Connect profile and linking it to your sales tax account. It covers everything from signing up for a Tax Connect profile using your Kintsugi virtual mail address, through registering as an administrator and connecting the account using your FEIN and Central Registration Number (or a registration PIN if a prior return isn't on hand).

Part 1: Create a Maryland Tax Connect Profile

  1. Go to the MD Tax Connect Portal and click Sign Up.

After setting up the account, we can now link the sales tax account.

Part 2: Link the Sales Tax Account

  1. Log back in to your Maryland Tax Connect account. Since the new User ID isn't yet associated with a taxpayer account, you'll be prompted to choose between registering as an Administrator (to manage the account) or a User (to perform tax functions on behalf of an existing administrator). Select register as an administrator.

  1. On the account access options, select "I am requesting Administrative access to my tax account(s) and DO NOT have a PIN or my PIN has expired," then click Next.

Note: If you don't have a copy of (or information from) a previously filed return, you can request your registration PIN by emailing MDTAXCONNECTHELP@marylandtaxes.gov. Include your legal business name, FEIN, and account type (Sales and Use Tax). Once you receive the PIN, select "I am requesting Administrative access to my tax account(s) and have a PIN" instead. Keep in mind that the PIN has an expiration date.account option.png

  1. Enter the Tax Account Information, then click Next:

  • ID Type: FEIN

  • ID Number: the business's EIN

  • Central Registration Number (CRN): the Maryland sales tax number

  • Period End Date for the last return filed under this CRN

  • Payment amount made in the last 120 days for this CRN (enter 0 if no payment was made)

Need Help?

If any step behaves unexpectedly (for example, the portal rejects the CRN or EIN entered), double-check the values against the client's most recent Maryland sales tax notice before retrying, and flag the account in the import tracker if the issue persists.

You can also reach out to our support team anytime using the chat bubble in the bottom-right corner of the screen; we are always happy to help.
