West Virginia Credentials for Importing Registration

How to locate the state-issued credentials required to import your West Virginia registration.
Updated 3 days ago

To import your existing sales tax registration into Kintsugi, you’ll need to provide a few details issued by the West Virginia Tax Division when you registered your business. West Virginia uses MyTaxes for online tax filing, payments, account management, and related business tax activity.

Required Credentials

When importing an existing West Virginia sales tax registration into Kintsugi, you’ll need at least three things:

  • MyTaxes credentials (username and password)

  • State Registered Business Name

  • West Virginia State Tax ID (West Virginia Tax Account Number)

What are my West Virginia Tax Division credentials?

Your MyTaxes credentials are the User ID and Password used to log in to West Virginia's MyTaxes portal at mytaxes.wvtax.gov. This is the West Virginia Tax Division's online portal for filing and paying business taxes.

Where to Find My MyTaxes Credentials?

When setting up your MyTaxes account, make sure to save your User ID and Password in a secure location. If you ever lose access to them, you can use the self-service recovery options on the MyTaxes login page:

  • Forgot your Password? Enter your User ID and a recovery link will be sent to your registered email address. Note that password recovery links expire after 24 hours and can only be used once.

  • Forgot both your User ID and Password? Enter your registered email address and answer your security question to have both sent to you.

What’s my State Registered Business Name?

Your State Registered Business Name is the legal business name you registered with the West Virginia Tax Division.

Where to find my State Registered Business Name

You can find your registered business name on your West Virginia Business Registration Certificate, sales tax registration documents, or notices and correspondence from the West Virginia Tax Division.

You may also be able to find it in your MyTaxes account by reviewing your business profile, account details, or registration information.

What’s my West Virginia State Tax ID?

Your West Virginia State Tax ID is the state-issued identification number associated with your West Virginia sales tax registration. This is also referred to as your Virginia Tax Account Number.

For West Virginia sales tax, this is typically the 8-digit state certificate number you received when you registered for your sales tax license. This number is associated with your Combined Sales and Use Tax account.

The West Virginia Tax Division assigns account identification numbers for each applicable tax type after your business registration is processed.

Where to find my West Virginia State Tax ID

You can usually find your West Virginia State Tax ID/certificate number in these places:

  • Your West Virginia Business Registration Certificate.
After your registration is processed, West Virginia issues a Business Registration Certificate. This certificate may also serve as your sales certificate.

  • Your West Virginia sales tax registration paperwork.
Your state-issued registration documents should include the certificate number or account identification number assigned to your sales tax account.

  • Your MyTaxes account.
Log in to your West Virginia MyTaxes account and review your business profile, tax accounts, or registration details.

  • West Virginia Tax Division correspondence.
Notices, letters, or account-related correspondence from the West Virginia Tax Division may include your sales tax certificate number or account ID.

  • Previously filed West Virginia sales tax returns.
Your account number or certificate number may also appear on previously filed Combined Sales and Use Tax returns.
