To import your existing Wisconsin sales tax registration into Kintsugi, you’ll need to provide a few details issued by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue when you registered your business. Wisconsin businesses can use My Tax Account (MTA) and other Wisconsin DOR online services to manage tax-related transactions, including sales and use tax activity.
When importing an existing Wisconsin sales tax registration into Kintsugi, you’ll need the following:
My Tax Account credentials (username and password)
State Registered Business Name
Wisconsin State Tax ID
Last Filed Return or Payment Amount
Your My Tax Account credentials are the Username and Password used to log in to Wisconsin's My Tax Account portal at tap.revenue.wi.gov/mta. This is the Wisconsin Department of Revenue's online portal for filing and paying business taxes.
When setting up your My Tax Account, make sure to save your Username and Password in a secure location. If you ever lose access to them, you can use the self-service recovery options on the My Tax Account login page:
Forgot your Username? Select "Forgot your username?" on the login page and your username will be emailed to your profile email address.
Forgot your Password? Select "Forgot username or password?", enter your username and profile email address, and select Submit to reset your password.
Your State Registered Business Name is the legal business name you provided to Wisconsin when you registered for your sales tax license.
You can usually find your registered business name on your Wisconsin sales tax registration paperwork, Business Tax Registration (BTR) Certificate, seller’s permit, or correspondence from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
You may also be able to find it in your Wisconsin My Tax Account profile by reviewing your business information, account details, or tax account access.
Your Wisconsin State Tax ID is the state-issued registration ID associated with your Wisconsin sales tax account. For sales and use tax accounts, this is typically a 15-digit state registration ID, without dashes. It usually begins with 456 followed by 12 digits.
You can usually find your Wisconsin State Tax ID in these places:
Your Wisconsin Business Tax Registration Certificate.
The Wisconsin BTR Certificate lists key registration details, including the registrant’s legal or real name, business name, address information, expiration date, and the permits or certificates held with the department.
Your Wisconsin seller’s permit or sales tax registration paperwork.
Your state-issued registration documents should include the account number or registration ID assigned to your Wisconsin sales tax account.
Your Wisconsin My Tax Account.
Log in to My Tax Account and review your business profile, account access, tax accounts, or available mail. If your certificate appears under “View Mail,” Wisconsin DOR indicates you may be able to print a copy from there.
Wisconsin Department of Revenue correspondence.
Notices, letters, or account-related communications from the Wisconsin DOR may include your tax account details, registration ID, or filing information.
Previously filed Wisconsin sales tax returns.
Your Wisconsin sales and use tax account number or registration ID may also appear on prior returns or filing records.
The total tax due amount from one of the three most recently filed returns for your selected tax account type in Wisconsin My Tax Account. This amount is used to verify your identity and validate the account during the import process. Make sure the amount matches exactly what was reported on your return, including dollars and cents.
Also, this is necessary to give Kintsugi third-party access to your Wisconsin My Tax Account.
You will find this amount in your Wisconsin My Tax Account under your filing history for the relevant tax account type. If you do not have a prior return on file, you can use the Letter ID from your Business Tax Registration Greeting Letter, Notice of Estimated Tax, or Notice of Amount Due as an alternative.
Once you provide the required credentials, Kintsugi will initiate the third-party access request. You do not need to validate or approve the request separately, as Kintsugi will complete this step on your behalf.
Once access is confirmed, Kintsugi can continue with the registration import setup in the app.
