How to Mark Jurisdictions as Collecting Sales Tax

Marking Jurisdictions for Sales Tax Collection
Updated 9 days ago

When Kintsugi detects that you're not collecting sales tax in jurisdictions where you're registered, you'll see a notification on your Dashboard. This prompt helps ensure you're meeting your sales tax obligations accurately.

Understanding the Notification

This reminder appears for states where you're currently registered but haven't indicated that you're collecting sales tax. If you're already collecting tax in these states, you can simply mark them as "Collecting" to keep your records up to date.

Important: If you're using the Shopify integration and you've already set up tax collection in Shopify, this notification is just a reminder to confirm your collection status in Kintsugi. No changes to your actual registration or filing processes are required.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Access Pending Tasks on Your Dashboard

  • Navigate to your Dashboard.

4 . Verify Changes

To ensure that you have successfully updated a certain jurisdiction, check Data Sources -> active registrations. You'll notice that the "Mark as Collecting" button disappears on the card. And if you click the document icon, you'll see the "View Details" page, and the status for that jurisdiction now shows "Collecting."

That's it! You've successfully updated your sales tax collection settings for the necessary jurisdiction(s). Keeping your settings up to date helps you stay compliant and manage your taxes effortlessly.

What This Means for Your Account

Marking a jurisdiction as "Collecting" tells Kintsugi that you're actively collecting sales tax in that state. This helps keep your compliance dashboard accurate and prevents unnecessary reminders.

If you're already registered and collecting tax in a state, marking it as "Collecting" simply updates your status in Kintsugi without affecting your actual tax collection setup.
